Is my mattress losing air?
You should not experience ongoing air loss with your Personal Comfort mattress. If your bed is softening overnight, don't worry -- this is almost always fixable at home, and any defective component is covered under your 25-year limited warranty.
Follow the steps below to find and fix the issue. If you'd rather watch someone walk through it, start here:

Step 1: Check Your Hose Connections
The hoses connect your air chambers (inside the mattress) to the air control unit (the pump). A loose or damaged connection is the most common cause of air loss.
- Locate where the hoses connect to the air control unit.
- Disconnect each hose fitting by hand.
- Look at the black O-ring (a small rubber ring inside the fitting). Check for any cracks, tears, or damage.
- Apply a small amount of mineral oil or vegetable oil to the O-ring to lubricate it.
Important: Do NOT use Vaseline or any petroleum-based product -- it will damage the O-ring.
- Reconnect each fitting firmly. You should hear and feel a "click" when it locks into place. If you don't hear a click, press harder until it seats fully.
Step 2: Find Out Where the Leak Is Coming From
Once the connections are secure, you need to determine whether the problem is in the air chamber (the bladder inside the mattress) or the air control unit (the pump).
Here's how to test it:
- Swap the hose connections at the air control unit -- plug the left hose into the right port and the right hose into the left port.
- Re-inflate both sides of the mattress to your preferred firmness.
- Sleep on the mattress as normal and check in the morning which side has lost air.
Note: It may take a full night's sleep to notice a difference. Be patient.
How to read the results:
| What happened | What it means |
|---|---|
| The soft side switched to the other side of the bed | The air control unit likely needs repair or replacement |
| The soft side stayed on the same side of the bed | The air chamber or fitting on that side likely needs repair or replacement |
